The cinema is restricted, and nearly a thousand performances are cancelled or postponed. What about the Spring Festival stalls?

Beijing, Jan 25 (Reporter Ren Siyu) Recently, there have been many confirmed cases in COVID-19 in Hebei, Heilongjiang, Beijing and other places. As the Spring Festival approaches, the flow and gathering of people increase, and the situation of epidemic prevention and control becomes more and more severe.

In order to do a good job in epidemic prevention and control, and to ensure the health and safety of cast members and audiences, cinemas in some areas have been temporarily closed, and many performances originally scheduled for January and February have been cancelled and postponed. What about this year’s Spring Festival movie and performance market?

Cinemas in Harbin and Shijiazhuang are temporarily closed.

On January 22nd, the China Film Distribution and Projection Association issued the Notice on Doing a Good Job in Preventing and Controlling the Epidemic Situation of Cinema during the Spring Festival of 2021, requiring strict online booking of ticket sales, ensuring reasonable intervals between sessions, doing a good job in audience admission detection, and supervising the staff and audience entering the cinema area to wear masks correctly.

The notice pointed out that all units should strictly implement the "Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Epidemic Situations in Film Screening Places" (Third Edition). This also means that during the Spring Festival, all cinemas should make online real-name reservations and sell tickets in a contactless way. In principle, the seating rate per venue should not exceed 75%.

On the first day of New Year’s Day in 2021, there will be seven large-scale movies released at the same time, and the Spring Festival file will be stable. However, whether some cinemas can open normally during the Spring Festival must first be marked with a question mark.

Since the beginning of January, Hebei Province has continuously added hundreds of confirmed cases in COVID-19. Subsequently, cinemas in Shijiazhuang, Baoding and other cities announced the suspension of business, and Zhangbei County of Zhangjiakou City requested the county’s museums, libraries, cultural centers and cinema lines to be temporarily closed.

In addition to Hebei, cinemas in Harbin, Heilongjiang, Gongzhuling, Jilin and Baishui County, Weinan, Shaanxi have also been closed. All public places within the jurisdiction of Tiangongyuan Street in Daxing District, Beijing are closed, and cinemas and other public places within the jurisdiction of non-Tiangongyuan Street are strictly restricted to 50%. The cinemas in Shunyi, Beijing, have not been opened since New Year’s Day.

The Spring Festival is coming, and many cinemas have begun to prepare for this year’s Spring Festival. However, the sudden and severe epidemic situation has brought the preparatory work to an abrupt end. It is still unknown whether these cinemas can wait until the Spring Festival before the arrival of the turning point.

Nearly a thousand theater performances were cancelled or postponed.

In addition to cinemas, some theatrical performances in January and during the Spring Festival were also cancelled or postponed.

Recently, Beijing Tianqiao Art Center issued a notice saying that due to local epidemic prevention measures, some stage props and cast members could not arrive in Beijing, and some recent performances would be cancelled or postponed. For example, in 2021, it would have been a trip to seal the box of the Shaanxi people’s art version of White Deer Plain, but the performance originally scheduled for January 22-24 has been postponed to June 25-27.

The China tour of the original musical Phantom of the Opera 2021/2022, which was scheduled to sail from February 16th to March 28th, was also postponed. Weber, the composer of Phantom of the Opera and the "father of musical", once called this tour "the largest tour in China". Some netizens commented that "it’s just a postponement, not a cancellation, and there is still some hope".

Some theaters in Wuhan also stopped performing some offline performances. Wuhan Qintai Concert Hall said that the performance before the Spring Festival only retained the "Classic Film Music Piano Trio" on the evening of January 23, which was also based on the small scale of the performance.

Jiangsu Grand Theatre, Jiangsu Performing Arts Group Kun Theatre and Nanjing Poly Grand Theatre also cancelled some performances in January. The person in charge of the performance department of Nanjing Zijin Grand Theatre said in an interview with the media that the relevant performance time of the theater is estimated to be postponed until May 2021, and the specific date has not yet been determined.

According to the data of Comprehensive Theater Committee, Performance Producer Committee and some ticketing platforms of China Performance Industry Association, nearly 1,000 performances of professional theaters nationwide have been cancelled or postponed in January. According to the data of Poly Cinema, the largest professional theater in China, as of January 18th, about 270 performances of more than 40 theaters in the cinema were cancelled or postponed, accounting for nearly 35% of the overall plan of the cinema.

In addition, some concerts and tours originally scheduled for January have also been cancelled. Recently, Rainbow Chamber Singers Weibo said that due to the requirements of prevention and control work, the performance scheduled for the evening of January 30th and 31st had to be cancelled. On January 15th, Hangzhou Barley ·66Livehouse announced that all the recent performances had been cancelled. The Comes Band, which originally planned to tour here, said that it was just after they got off the plane that they learned of the cancellation of the performance.

In order to prevent the epidemic, many places across the country have successively issued epidemic prevention and control notices during the Spring Festival, strictly restricting large-scale performances and gatherings. In Sichuan Province, people-intensive gathering activities such as marathons and commercial performances are suspended. In Jiangsu Province, large-scale cultural and sports business activities are strictly examined and approved, and the requirement of "who sponsors and who is responsible" is implemented. In principle, large-scale gathering activities such as indoor sports events, concerts, offline exhibitions and promotions are not held.

“Cloud performance "and" cloud live broadcast "re-launched.

When cinemas in some areas are temporarily closed and many plays and concerts are cancelled, where should everyone go to see the performances?

When the offline performance is reduced, the online performance begins to make up the position. On the 23rd, the Shandong Provincial Grand Theatre issued a notice saying that in order to fully prevent and control the epidemic, the "2021 Shandong New Year Folk Concert" originally scheduled for January 29th will be adjusted to live online.

In 2020, the sudden epidemic brought impact to the performance industry, and also catalyzed the transformation and upgrading of online performances. "Cloud Theater", "Cloud Music Festival" and "Cloud Live Broadcasting" became the normal state before the performance industry officially resumed work. At the beginning of 2021, in addition to doing a good job in epidemic prevention and killing, and controlling the frequency of performances, the theaters began to exert their strength again.

Recently, Wuhan Han Theatre announced that it would change the "weekly performance" of the theater to live online, and the actors were still performing in the theater, which was shown to the audience by live footage. It is understood that the performance plan of the hospital from January to March is expected to be changed to live online.

According to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, during the "two festivals", Beijing expanded the supply of public cultural services, encouraged new formats such as "cloud performances", online performances and live performances to provide high-quality online entertainment products, and maximized the supply of cultural programs such as internet, television and radio.

The China Performance Industry Association issued a document saying that the industry has been mentally prepared to deal with the epidemic, and the current domestic vaccine research and development and vaccination are active and effective. In the face of this round of epidemic, the performance industry is actively making timely adjustments, and the industry judges that the serious impact on the performance industry will not appear again.
